	Welcome to OPA (NI)

"Former patients helping new patients"

The Oesophageal Patients Association is a National Registered Charity and was formed in 1985 when a few survivors of oesophageal cancer met and found tremendous reassurance in sharing experiences. The members of the Association are all patients who have experienced such difficulties. We have prepared leaflets on the problems, which we can talk about at first hand and we understand the fears that can be generated, the pains that can be suffered, and the effects on the digestive system that can be experienced. Patients who have had their stomachs removed (gastrectomy) also find our leaflets helpful since they experience very similar effects.

The aim of the Oesophageal Patients' Association in N.Ireland - 12-Jul-2010
The Oesophageal Patients' Association in Northern Ireland exists to help patients and their carers cope with the difficulties which may have arisen as a result of their treatment. We seek to support and encourage, as far as possible, all patients whether recently diagnosed or long-standing, towards a good recovery.

Next Meeting - Saturday, 9th October, 2010 - Updated - 12-Jul-2010
The next meeting of the Northern Ireland Branch of the Oesophageal Patients' Association will be held on Saturday 9th October, 2010 at 10-30am in the usual venue at the Beechlawn House Hotel, Dunmurry. Come and meet other former patients and their carers, be encouraged and feel supported. When we met last October we celebrated the tenth anniversary of our Association in N. Ireland and around one hundred patients and carers met with us. Why not come and join us at our next meeting?
